This article provides an overview of research on assessment of improvisation in music and offers suggestions for increasing its centrality in music teaching and learning.

A total of students were used on this study. The instrument used for data collection was the questionnaires which were administered personally by the researcher to five randomly selected schools in Egor local government area of Edo State. The underlying hypothesis of this collection of papers is that understanding the structure of the information in a course can improve teaching and learning. Some of the reasons that I have presented elsewhere include strengthening associations or the ability to abstract from one set of examples to broader questions. With listening, improvising, reading, and composing as context for music teaching and learning, it covers historical and philosophical foundations for, and research on, creativity and improvisation. Six elements repertoire, vocabulary, intuition, reason, reflection, and exemplars contribute to a holistic and comprehensive creative process that inspires spontaneous and meaningful music making. The article concludes with recommendations for replication and extension of research to provide insight for improvisation assessment.
